Sunday! Our final day of the trip and we were at The Animal Kingdom! It was kind of an overcast day which was nice. And the least crowded park of all the parks! We beat the Shaheens again and went straight to the Expedition Everest rollercoaster. No line! The biggest miracle of the week! Okay, this rollercoaster is SO FUN! We loved it! We were all laughing and exclaiming at the end and got right back on for round 2! I think we may have even ridden it 3 times before the Shaheens showed up. The Finding Nemo show was starting so we headed to that theater with them first. Really cute show! I guess I didn't realize that talented actors and dancers performed at Disney parks for their career. Then we ran back to Everest with the Shaheens. Megan was super nervous and asked about 300 questions which made me laugh. I'm so anxious all the time, it's nice to be on the other side of it.
The safari was so fun! Better than my real life safari in actual Africa haha. We saw a ton of cool animals and it felt like the real deal. The girls were aching for a stuffed animal so they got their souvenir here!
Saw a bird show then headed to Avatar land. Ohhhh wowww. The pictures don't do it justice. The landscaping, vines, arches and greenery were jaw dropping. It was so immense. We waited in a line for the Avatar ride which took about 45 min. but is known to be 2+ hours long so we felt lucky. I wasn't sure what to expect. It's kind of like the Soarin' ride but instead of sitting in chairs in rows, you are straddling a bike of sorts. It's supposed to be your winged banshee. You lean forward and hold onto handlebars and squeeze the "banshee" with your legs. Then the screen opens up and it seriously feels like you are FLYING through the air, under bridges, over trees, grazing lakes, etc. I have never experienced anything like it! You feel air blowing on your face and smell the forest and it's all so real. I was laughing in sheer delight! It was hands down the COOLEST ride I have EVER been on! I couldn't believe how amazing it was!
The Lion King show was just as impressive as all the other shows we'd seen!
I was feeling the fatigue of organizing, directing and herding 15 people everywhere for 6 days. I just did not want to be in charge anymore. Or responsible. I tried so hard to look up articles or blogs for good food recommendations but our BBQ dinner was another bust. Whatever, at least there weren't long lines or people on top of us.
The Dinosaur ride was pretty fun. No line and it felt like Indian Jones, really bumpy and quick turns. Better than I expected.
Isn't this tree the coolest?? Again, pictures don't do it justice, but it's manmade and just incredible to look at. I really loved everything about The Animal Kingdom. It's a very unique park and one that I would love to come back to.
The Na'vi River Journey was something like It's a Small World but much more interesting. You're floating down a river in a jungle with iridescent creatures everywhere.
A full week of playing Concentration in line and they still weren't sick of it!
We just couldn't bear to part ways yet so we had one last hurrah at Cold Stone Creamery before tearfully hugging goodbye. We love the Shaheens so much! I don't know how we got so lucky to land them as best friends. Our kids adore each other and get along so well. We count our time with them as some of our best memories and were so grateful we got to experience Disney World with them!!
Luckily, our flight home the next morning was on time with no issues! And you'll never guess who we saw in the terminal! The PORTERS!! They were on their way to the Caribbean and had a layover in Orlando! I couldn't believe my eyes! What are the freaking odds?! So fun getting to squeeze Camilla!!
As we were coming down the escalator to the parking lot at Sky Harbor Airport there was a news reporter and camera man. Apparently a woman was attacked in this parking lot recently and they were interviewing people about their reactions. She asked if she could interview me and since we weren't in a hurry I agreed. I don't think I was an ideal person though because I could tell she wanted me to say that I was scared to travel and nervous about the parking lot but I said things like we can't live in fear, haha. A few clips of what I said ended up on the news that night though. Plus all of our backsides. We're famous! The kids were definitely intrigued. The funniest part was that a girl in Olive's class at school was apparently watching the news that night and recognized me! She thought I was the woman who had been attacked and asked Olive if I was OK, hahaha. So random that a 9 year old watches the 10 o'clock news.
