January

On New Year's Day, we went to Discovery Park because the boys had been begging to go fishing. They have been into this Netflix show called Chasing Monsters that makes fishing look like adrenaline pumping, cut throat, high thrills.Their cousins also really love fishing.
 We tried to warn them.
It was almost funny to watch their disappointment. Yep. Fishing stinks.
But it was really cute to watch Travis teach them.

Crack kills.
 So does that smile. :)

She has been really into rhyming lately. They're learning it in preschool. I just about died laughing when I heard her make this up. I SWEAR (pun intended) that she didn't hear this at home!
Disaster struck when Olive begged Travis to go scootering around the park with her. She had just gotten a new, pink scooter for Christmas and was obsessed. Travis jumped on one of the boys' penny boards and was going down the sidewalk when he hit a rock. I saw him pitch forward and land hard. So hard, that the couple walking their dog nearby, stopped and stared, asking if was OK. He jumped up and ran over, laughing... I'm sure just embarrassed, but I was concerned too. It looked like a bad fall. In no time at all, he started losing mobility and was in quite a bit of pain. Thank goodness, he didn't have work the next day and was able to get into an orthopedic surgeon. The x-ray showed a fracture along the radial head. Thank goodness it was his left arm, but it still made working difficult. I didn't want him to go back to the office at all that week, but try telling HIM that! I even called the front desk to tattle on him to the girls and they were super good about making sure he didn't over do it. You know the stereotypical "man cold". Yeah, my husband doesn't act like that. When he's hurt or sick, he doesn't turn into a baby or demand attention. He's kind of the opposite. You can't make him take it easy. Which I guess is preferable. I can't complain. But this broken arm thing really stressed me out!! I didn't want it to get any worse. He only wore the sling for a day, then ditched it. I think he probably kept it wrapped for a few more days, then ditched that too. Thankfully, at his 4 week appt. things were looking good and by the time of writing this... 12 weeks has passed and he is ship shape!

On to trauma #2!!
Two days later, I was at Morrison Ranch park with Shelley and Leah when Collin split his cheek open going off a "jump" on his scooter. We had been there for hours visiting when the group of them walked up with Collin holding his face. The second I saw it, I knew it needed stitches. Shelley kept Weston and Olive while I left with Collin and Tanner. I didn't think Travis could stitch him up with his broken arm, so I was going to go straight to Urgent Care, but I called Travis on my way and he was just getting off work and wanted to see it. So we met at home and he said he could stitch it up just fine, so we headed back to his office. Leslie stayed later to assist, bless her. He did an amazing job on the stitches... I think there were 4?? And all with a broken arm!

I decided that if this was our welcome into 2018, I wanted to turn around and go back to 2017!! :(

Cutest smiles after bath time!! He is all giggles and his legs don't stop "happy kicking" when it's bath time. I feel like it's when a dog wags it's tail... Tanner kicks his legs!
Ok, ok! I'll finally feed you some baby food!! It's just so much easier when all they want is bottles. He is definitely at the grabby stage where we wants everything you're eating. We started out with rice cereal and we got NO crazy faces! He was all about it!
Gimme that spoon!!

Must have been a busy week. She conked out like this in the middle of an afternoon.
She loves to go in her room and watch TV on the phone and snuggle her blanket... even though she's not supposed to. So if you open her door, you'll see her chuck her blankie off the bed, behind her or just as far away from her as possible while keeping a dead pan face like, "What? I wasn't doing anything?" Even though you saw the whole thing.
He is so funny about that car seat strap that hangs between his legs! I hate it because it's dirty from dragging on the ground, but he loves to chew on it. Well, Travis discovered that if you take it away from him, he just kicks his legs together back and forth quickly until he's scooted it back up and he can grab it again! The little turkey! Genius little turkey though. ;)

Time for the hard stuff!! Moving right on to peas and green beans! I didn't buy any fruit. None of the good stuff! I'm going to get him used to the veggies or he'll never eat them again.
Once again, no sour faces! The most he did was go a little wide eyed and freeze. Kind of like he wasn't so sure about it, but wasn't going to refuse it either.

Sadly, Tanner's Christmas stocking didn't get done until January. No time for sewing projects in December. Plus, I had to wait several weeks for this adorable material to ship! So worth it!!! Of all the cactus prints, this was my favorite. My only child born in AZ needed a cactus stocking!
Olive had a make-up swim class and I was so surprised to see the teacher was Sarah Merkley! I didn't even know she worked there. Fun coincidence!
I let the boys each invite over a friend for a late night, one Friday. We ordered pizza, watched a movie and made shakes. Collin invited Kate and Weston invited Anderson.
Met the girls at Board and Batten for lunch one day! Mom and Grandma came too. My chicken salad croissant was amaze but I was shedding tears over the fact that they didn't have their creme brulee right now!!
The only hitch was this wiggle worm and the fact that he had no socks on, which Grandma was not thrilled about!

I embroidered a couple of bibs for Tanner boy.

See, he does make mad faces too! I don't think I was shoveling it in fast enough.
Mom hazards, hahaha. I think it was a scoop of mashed potatoes that Della sent flying into Shelley's hair.
My poor baby caught his first illness!!!! It was sooo sad. He was clearly miserable. Runny nose, fever and cough for a whole week. I moved him back into our room for a few nights just to be near.

I guess when your brothers go shirtless, you figure you can too!

President Monson passed away. My first thought upon hearing it was pure relief. I've been so sad for him, knowing he's in bad health and not able to function. I was so happy to hear he was back with his wife. Time to start reaping the rewards of a life, selflessly lived.

President Nelson was called as the new prophet with Pres. Eyring as first counselor and Elder Oaks as second counselor. Everyone is sad about Pres. Uchtdorf being released and I agree that he is amazing, but I think there's a reason Elder Oaks was put in. He doesn't mince words. He gives it to us straight and we need that.
Just another day in the life....

Funny boy. That toy that hangs from the top of his carseat is like his hand rail. He just holds onto it while I'm driving.
How about this letter from Weston?!!!
Oh my goodness.
"I love you through the whole galaxy."

Tanner is in full blown melt down mode if I leave him for even a second. It's not OK if I'm even in the same room. I have to be holding him! So I often mop the floor or cook dinner with him in the sling!

Girls Weekend

I stole this first part from my sister's blog since I'm so far behind and she summed it up pretty good!!

I was blessed with some amazing friends.
My parents built a new house and when we moved in
I was 12 and starting the 7th grade.
Stephanie and I didn't go long before connecting with these
3 girls who lived down the street.

Right off the bat we became instant friends, soul sistas!

We were probably the most immature girls, ever!
We didn't care.
We knew how to have a good time.

Boy bands of any kind, Spice Girls, Lifehouse, Weezer, 311 on repeat.

Laying out on the top of our parents roofs since nobody had a pool.
We had a boom box and spray bottles to keep us from not frying to a crisp up there!

Eating, lots of eating!
Goldfish crackers, picnic in a bag (bagged caesar salad kits), happy hour wings at Applebees,
lemonberry slushes from Sonic were some of our favorites to eat endlessly!
I honestly don't know how we weren't severely over weight!

Cruising around in either Jessica's Corolla or Jenni's green Dodge truck nicknamed "the green bean" (we were lucky to have friends with cars).

Making up words to communicate with, like Narnie.
 "don't be a narnie"
??
Did I mention we were immature!

I remember popping lots of popcorn and hanging out front under the stars on blankets, talking the night away.

Goofing off in aerobics class at Mesa High

Too many girls camp adventures with high pitched squeals and contraband.

One time we really wanted to watch the live NSYNC concert and non of us had cable.
We drove to the cheapest motel we could find, which of course was in the sketchiest part of town.
We all pitched in and reserved a room so we could watch it on HBO!
When it was over we all drove home and slept in our own beds.
Of course without our parents knowing!

California beach trips after graduation.

YSA dances at Rockin' R Ranch

Last fall when we were out to lunch, someone suggested we do an overnight trip together so we would have more time to catch up than the typical 1 1/2 hours we get at the 4x a year birthday lunches!

We decided on a staycation in Scottsdale at the beautiful Fairmont Princess resort!
We started off with shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
Nordis. ;)
I didn't think I'd buy anything, but I found the cutest sweater with bell sleeves!
We had more fun people watching than anything else.
We are definitely old moms and not "in style" anymore.
Whatcha gonna do when you don't want to
A) go bra-less
B) show more bra than shirt
C) wear something that looks more janitor uniform than shirt

I've officially aged out of Forever 21. (OK, maybe it really happened a couple of years ago). That place is the pits. Literally, it smells. And crop tops ain't my thang. So, bu-buy Forever.

Who doesn't look good in black leather skirts?!
Oh wait. ;)
The funniest part was when we ran into my family.
Seriously.
This wasn't planned.
Bron came into town with his kids and called Trav up. I thought they were in Phoenix. I guess they had finished at the pool and Bron wanted to go shopping. (He hasn't aged out of Forever 21 yet. Hehehe)
The crazy part is.... Scottsdale Fashion Square is HUGE!! Three levels. And we just happened to be sitting on a bench waiting for someone to pee when the whole group walked up. One of my friends said, "Hey, that looks like Weston!" I looked over and saw him and thought, "Yeahhh, that DOES look like Weston. Wait. That IS Weston. WAIT. What the heck is happening here?!" My brain honestly started going to kidnapper zone before contemplating that my husband could actually be there. All my friends commented how funny it was that my children all ran up and mauled me as though it had been weeks since they had seen me.... instead of hours. What can I say? I'm loved. :)

We ate dinner at The Thristy Lion, got dessert at the Shake Shack, then headed out to The Duce for some dancing!!!

This place looks like the sketchiest shed in Phoenix from the outside, but the inside is this adorable, multi-faceted, retro-shabby-chic hang out spot! Complete with a DJ busting mostly jazzed up oldies. We danced our hearts out.
And Jessica may have politely shoved an innocent guy dancing up a little too closely to LaRee. Hahaha.

After getting lost in the resort parking lot at 1am, we gave up and did valet, taking a golf cart to our room.
I felt my body shutting down at 10pm, but don't you worry... we stayed up until 3am talking!! I love these girls so much.
Jenni hasn't changed much, haha.
The next day was SpA DaY!!! I have never done something like this before. It felt very "rich and famous-ish".
I could get used to this lifestyle.
We had a complimentary, healthy lunch, but I think we all had unhealthy amounts of the prickly pear cactus lemonade.

Oh to walk around in slippers and plush robes all day!
There is a roof top pool that is reserved only for the spa.

We all got massages around 1pm. I chose the Himalayan Salt massage.
It was basically a hot stone massage, but they used the salt as the stones. And it was glorious. Little square of Belgian chocolate at the end. I was soooo happy.

They had a steam room that I almost choked to death in, and a cold water plunge that only my big toe made it into. The hot tub is where it's at. Always.
After a good amount of soaking, steaming and sun bathing, we headed out to the main pool and cleaned them out of tacos and fries.
Why do all good things have to end??! Jenni had to get home for her daughter's birthday party and Jessica went with her. LaRee, Shelley and I weren't leaving until we absolutely HAD to though. :) So we did some more hot tubbing, took showers and enjoyed the relaxing lounge room, sipping lemonade and reading magazines.

Driving home we made one last stop at a homemade ice cream place called Sweet Republic. Just procrastinating as long as we could, I think. :)

I can't believe its been 13+ years since we went on a trip together. There's nothing quite like friends who have known you almost your whole life. We decided to forgo birthday presents from no on, and make this an annual event! Just don't break it to our husband's yet. ;)
