Aug. 27-29
I hadn't been to Texas to see Rach in FIVE years. Fiiiive. It's a legit crime. Now obviously, we've seen each other lots in the past 5 years, but I was definitely overdue to visit HER. And lookie who was on my flight over?! Camilla's parents! Small small world. My absolute favorite is Allen's bedroom eyes over here. He was meant for Hollywood! Hahahahaha!
Rach picked me up from the airport and there was a present on my seat! Whaaa?! Not my birthday or anything. I totally freaked out when I saw it was a Stanley cup! I had just decided it was time to join the Stanley club, but had no idea you couldn't just buy one. I mean, what the heck? It's so exclusive, they aren't even in stock. You have to get on text alert lists to be notified when they're available to buy. But not if Rach is your friend!! She hooks you up!
Ironically, Camille and Andy Reheisse were flying into Texas the same time I was, so we all met up at none other than Torchys for lunch! Gimme all the queso! I haven't seen the Reheisse's since Buffalo! It was so fun to catch up with them!
First item of business was to pick the kids up from school and hit the lake! The Shaws are big into boating and I haven't been to the lake in probably 10 years. Saddest story ever. Strapping on a wakeboard was pure nostalgia. And it definitely dated me. I may as well been riding a dinosaur. I also got to try wake surfing for the first time! Harder than it looks but I was so proud of myself for getting up on my first try! It was such a fun time!
Check out their "supra" nice boat! Haha!
The next morning we drove the 1 1/2 hrs to Waco!! Finally checking this chick pick off my list! Can't say I'm a die hard fan of Chip and Joanna but I don't live under a rock either. We got lunch at Magnolia Table first. They butter was my favorite. Followed by the grits. Mmmm mm! Grits!
Waco is just a 5 min. drive away. Oh hello, silos! This place really is super cute. Perfect hang out place. Yard games, shopping and lots to eat! We browsed all the shops. I bought a robe cuz that seemed like just the booshy thing to do. I don't normally go gaga for cupcakes, but these ones were legit. The plain vanilla were delish, but the seasonal key lime pie was uh-maze. The favorite for sure!
Right around the corner was Baylor University. I'm a huge nerd and love college campuses. I know it's weird and even embarrassing, but I just do. Something about them. Rachel was super sweet and happily drove me around. I could just feel the learning taking place!!! I was all smiles!
From there, we drove to Frisco/Plano where our hotel was! It was right on the strip of lots of fancy stores. Quite the nightlife happening. We browsed Lulu and ate dinner at Haywire. If you're ever in Texas, definitely eat at Haywire. And definitely get the lump crab dip. It was faun-cy. Surprised we didn't see George Strait. I think our waiter was the most charismatic waiter I've ever had. Then my big mistake was getting coffee gelato next door. The worker promised me there was barely any coffee in it. Tell that to 4am Stephanie. I was wide awake allllll night. My just desserts, I suppose.
The next morning we spent some time by the pool on the roof, then did some more shopping and eating. What else?! Velvet Taco was pretty darn tasty. The street corn is worth mentioning. How was it already time to go??! We had talked nonstop and still had lots to say. It was the best 72 hours. I love Rach so much and am so grateful for our little weekend getaways together!
