Winnie stayed at CharlieBar Boarding while we were in Florida and the kids really missed her! She got a bad case of the trots there though so I definitely wasn't missing her later that week!
I love my souvenir visor from Florida! An homage to Grandmother. It was the name of the bike shop we rented from.
Back to school Father's Blessings! Collin starting middle school!! Woot woot! Olive in 3rd grade at ALA with Mrs. Wakefield and Weston homeschooling. Tanner in PreK with Mrs. Shari. Their uniforms still haven't come, so I had to make last minute purchases and have them wear a pin.
Traditional Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast that Collin never eats because he's too nervous. Even still, he was in rare form driving to school. The traffic was absurd and I literally thought he was going to jump out of his skin. He couldn't even sit still. Every few minutes he'd just freak out. We pulled into the parking lot and frantically parked and ran up. I didn't even know where to take Olive. By the time I dropped her off, Collin had disappeared. I guess he figured out where to go.
They deserved a special, after school treat! Menchies frozen yogurt hit the spot. At dinner, everyone was talking about how awesome their first day at school was, but Weston was quiet. Travis finally asked him how his day was and he said, "Eh. My teacher left to go to the gym and I had to wash poo off the dog's bum." Hahahahahaha! He was not wrong. Poor kid! I definitely did jet off to the gym and Winnie's tummy troubles have been super gross.
I kept hoping Weston would get into ALA, but the weeks kept passing and no email came. It actually turned out to be great for a few things. We were able to really focus on his multiplication facts and spelling. We got into a routine in the morning and he was usually done by lunchtime. It was nice having him around so that I could leave Tanner to run errands if I needed to. And it was also fun being able to spend time together, the three of us. Like taking impromptu "field trips" to the pet store when Winnie needed something. :) We also had "cooking class" once a week. Weston wants to be a chef, so he loved learning in the kitchen with me. We laughed when Travis announced he made the golf team. Golfing with Dad on Fridays was the perfect P.E.
Dress shopping for the perfect baptism dress at "A Dressy Occasion" was just what you'd expect with Olive!
Weston did great making tons of sugar cookies for Posey's baptism luncheon!
Grandma Ann tried out an assisted living center that was just built next to Gilbert High School on Elliot Rd. I couldn't get over how nice it was. Picture perfect! But she wasn't happy there so it only lasted one month. Her health hasn't been good at all.
We love our Friday playdates with Landon!
Weston did this puzzle all by himself!
The Shaheens came into town for a parenting workshop so we loved getting to go out to dinner with them! The Sicilian Butcher in Chandler and Jeremiahas for dessert. Obviously we can't get enough of the Shaheens!
I loved this workshop. To sum it up, the biggest takeaway was to focus on the good. As parents we spend the grand majority of our time correcting our children or yelling at them or paying attention to the negative. Try to ignore as much as possible the inconsequential stuff and comment on and pay attention to the GOOD they do.
Afterwards, Travis and I got lunch at Worth Takeaway and talked about everything we learned and how we can be better parents.
The only bummer was that I had to miss Posey's baptism. I was so sad! It was originally scheduled on a different day, but they had to move it because of a family conflict. Grandma Evans was able to take Olive though, and I headed over later to help with the birthday party. They partied ALL DAY.
For obvious reasons, this made me laugh so hard.
This picture is tucked away in Weston's wallet. LOVE!!
Just the usual hijinks over here. ;)
Tried to give Winnie a hair cut... didn't go so hot. Hair freaking everywhere. Spent over an hour hacking away at her and she looked like a weedwhacker got to her. I guess the $65 is worth it.
The Porters invited us over for a birthday celebration for these girls! Posey squeezed Olive so tight when we showed up. I think they're fond of each other.
Her wish was to go to Teppanyaki for her birthday so we spent the family fortune and off we went on a Saturday afternoon. I can still hear the drums and robotic call of the birthday song "Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday. Birthday to you." Everyone was entranced by the onion volcano and egg juggling. I was googly eyed by the amount of lard in the rice.
Then I took Lindi and Olive to Altitude and to get pedicures and frozen yogurt! Olive was just a little excited to get fake nails from Lindi. I'd say it was a pretty awesome birthday.
Makin' fancy milkshakes for Sunday dinner. You always underestimate the amount of ice cream needed for a milkshake.
Carrie turned 40 and threw herself a swimming party at Shepherd pool!
Learning to dance Fancy Like by Walker Hayes for FHE. Travis was a good sport! Collin always gets so frustrated with himself and gives up, then eventually filters back in.
Olive's actual birthday was on a school day! Donuts for breakfast and Joes Farm Grill for lunch... her favorite! The strawberry shortcake milkshake knocked my socks off. Best shortcake I've ever tasted.
She got her very own set of scriptures with a cute purse case and Weston made her earrings. How stinkin cute are they?! He made them out of fish hooks. So, super sanitary haha. He said he cleaned them though ;) She totally swooned over them, as did I.
I put his here to remember my stint, trying to get people to sign up to feed the missionaries every month. Its the WORST. Absolute torture. I hate asking people to do things. And you'd think they were feeding piranhas. Why do I have to be the Relief Society counselor over missionary work? Please, people. Just feed the flippin missionaries!
