Rachel and I had hoped to be on an exotic vacation with our husbands this fall but our schedules were just not cooperating. So we decided to go to Vegas to see the Backstreet Boys reunion tour instead! It worked out to be the weekend after my birthday so it felt a little like a birthday present too!
We stayed at Excalibur and spent the first day by the pool relaxing and catching up on life! Rachel has had quite a lot of drama with her kids' school, Vandermont, so she filled me all in!
The concert was that night at the Sphere which is still fairly new in Vegas. It was amazing!! They say there isn't a bad seat in the place but it was a little disappointing that we were just far enough back that the top of the screen got cut off by the level above us. Minor hiccup. We LOVED it!! We sang and danced and swooned, reliving the high school days. Apparently there was a trend to wear all white.. whoops, we missed that memo. We were pretty happy with our throwback t-shirts.
The next day we got some lunch at the popular Tacos El Gordo. Very similar to Los Tacos #1 in NYC. Then we walked down almost the entire strip, stopping in at a few stores to window shop.
We had an early lunch at a popular French restaurant called Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris hotel. We were so hot and ready to rest our feet! The food was okay, nothing to really rave about.
We caught the Bellagio fountains at just the right time!
We weren't sure what show to see on our last night but quickly realized the whole city was there to see Beyonce. It was the final night of her world tour, Cowboy Carter. Holy cow, she has a lot of fans. I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate so I did a quick search online and saw that she brings her youngest daughter out in the show so I figured it must be ok. Ummm, not so much. Also, her fan base is interesting. It was a "let your freak flag fly" sort of vibe. LOTS of skin. Lots of leather chaps. So many gay people. I've never seen anything like it. I was honestly confused. We stuck out like sore thumbs. She's a global star and has so many hits so I thought we'd know more songs. Not so much. But be assured we rocked out the few times her hits came on! It was probably a good idea that I can't make out lyrics well because I think there was a lot of swearing. Oh! And it was supposed to start at 7pm so we got there at 6pm. And waited and waited and waited. It finally started at NINE!! Gah, that was so annoying. Near the end something happened that I couldn't believe happened. I was shocked. Is this what Hollywood is all about? If so, they have sold their souls to the devil. So I looked at Rach and asked if she was OK to leave and we hightailed it out of there.
Overall, such a fun trip with Rachel. I love her dearly and am so grateful we get to see each other at least once a year!
I flew home Sunday morning while Lane was giving his farewell address before his mission. Sad to miss it but was back in time for the dinner they had that night.
