This little darling started school the end of July! Ben Franklin Charter follows a modified year round schedule. I wanted her to go to 1/2 day Kindergarten and Neely doesn't offer 1/2 day anymore.
We went to Meet the Teacher night two days before the first day and met Mrs. Freiling (pronounced Fry-ling). It's her first year at Franklin but her 4th year teaching. She seems really, really nice and Olive immediately liked her.
Olive basically needed a whole new wardrobe to meet the dress code. Dresses to the knee or pants. Shirts must have sleeves. Closed toed shoes with socks. She chose her unicorn dress for the first day!
Turns out, they don't let the Kindergarteners bring backpacks to school, so she only used this the first day. They just bring a water bottle and folder.
I left the boys at home and we parked and walked her in. Normally, the whole school meets in the courtyard to do the pledge before school, but on the first day they had the Kinders just meet in the classroom.
Her desk was on the front row, right in the middle! She was BEYOND excited. Giddy, I'd say. All of us parents hung around as long as they'd let us, then the teacher told the kids to wave goodbye and we inched towards the door. Some kids were crying or trying to show a brave face. Olive cheerfully waved goodbye to me and chirped, "Have fun!"
Haha, I think I'm the one that's supposed to be saying that to her!
I think if she had been starting full day Kindergarten I would have had a harder time with all of this, but knowing she'll only be gone 3 hours a day is perfect.
The boys went back to school on August 2! They also had Meet the Teacher two days before that. Weston has Mrs. Uchimara for 2nd grade and we've heard she is a great teacher!
Collin has Mrs. Eggen for fourth grade. She has a reputation for being a really good teacher so I'm excited for the great year I'm sure both boys will have!
First day of school Mickey Mouse pancakes! Collin's first one was a bit more like Yoda. ;)
I was so sick the weekend before school started so Travis took the boys to Target to pick out a few new school shirts under strict instructions to Facetime me so I could either approve or veto the boys' choices. Wouldn't you know it... I wanted to veto all their choices. Why can't boys just fall in love with stripes or solids??! I reassessed my need to control the way they look and allowed a purple shirt for Collin and an emoji shirt for Weston. Of course, those are the ones they picked for the first day. The irony is, I actually like the way Collin looks in purple. He's a *1* (If you know Carol Tuttle's personality book) and so bright colors really do fit his personality!
I'm not sure if emoji shirts fit into personality typing, but I suppose it fits being a 7 year old boy.
Olive had to be a little late to school so we could walk the boys in on the first day!
Benson is in Weston's class again and he's so happy! They were goofing off in line already.
Fridays are spirit days so Olive had on her school t-shirt and what it says on the back kills me. Class of 2031. Makes it seem right around the corner. Kindergartners don't keep.
