I got a calling a few weeks ago to be the "Additional Relief Society Meeting Coordinator".
No, I did not make that up. It's a real calling.
I guess it's what they call the Enrichment leader now. Why must we constantly be changing names??! Should that be addressed to the General Presidency? I'm sure they read this.
This is the first calling I've had in the Relief Society since I've been married. Seems pretty low key, so no complaints there. I'm just not sure how to get people excited about "additional Relief Society meetings". I know I'm not. And after glancing at the projected calendar for the year (which included "Jello Night" Bring jello to share. Jello judging." I. kid. not.), I think I need to get some creative juices flowing.
We had our first activity last week and I think it turned out fun. A lot of new people have moved into the ward so we had a Get To Know You BBQ in someone's backyard.
I was in charge of the grilling.
"Hi, my name is Stephanie and I've never turned a piece of meat on a grill before."
True story.
But I did it. 40 pieces of chicken and one hour later, I'm a grill chef. :)
And I actually got compliments. Lots of them.
I attribute it to the amazing marinade and lots of lots of sugar therein.
Now, if only the ridiculous heat emanating from the grill could tan you as it burns you ... we'd be in session.
Afterward we played some games. Everyone brought a shoe that told something about them and we sat in a big circle and shared what it was.
I, and the lady in the presidency that I work with, were obviously the first people there. Can you guess which one is my shoe?
I had to chuckle when I put mine next to hers.
Clearly, we might be polar opposites, but we get along great. :)
(And really, I don't think that shoe necessarily represents me, but it's definitely my favorite. My pair of black flip flops that never leave my feet should have really won a place here.)
So now, my plea for help! I need to plan some more fun activities. Please share with me your favorite "additional Relief Society Meeting" idea! I'd appreciate it! :)

I love your sparkly shoe! Makes me happy :) Glad you were able to be grill master for a night & have it all work out perfectly! I wish I had some ideas, but I never go to those activities so I'm clueless. :)
lol.....ok seriously this is getting freaky. So we both had a calling in Young Womens at the same time, then we both were the Gospel Doctrine teachers and now I'm in RS too!!! You will be great!!!!!!! :)
Looks like your summer has been fun. I knew you were going to Cali with the fam, but didn't know you were coming back here for a litte.. we'll have to catch up next time. If it makes you feel better, I never thought you were unfashionable when I saw your pictures the last four years, but I feel the same. I bought one pair of pants while I was in Pitt so it was nice to come back and shop a little.
We just had a R.S night where everyone brought "the best thing they ever had". We divied up dessert, main course, etc and explained why it was our fave. You know me, always up for good food. We also made a questionaire one time and asked everyone attending to put down one fact about themselves that even people close to them might not know and everyone guesses who the fact belongs to. Good luck!
