My mom has wanted to do a family trip to Aspen Grove for years. Our family went when I was about 16 years old and at the beginning of the week my mom had to be hospitalized and have surgery to remove a dermoid tumor. Pretty traumatic stuff and not exactly the family vacation they had envisioned. Well, it was time for a do-over!
Everyone was traveling on their own and meeting at Aspen Grove on Saturday, June 29, in the afternoon to check-in. We went a day early to spend some time with our friends, the Shaws.
Tanner is at just the perfect age for hours of crying in his car seat, so I flew with him while Travis drove the rest of the kids. We timed it just right so that when I was landing, he was arriving in Salt Lake City. It was Tanner's first time on an airplane and he did awesome! I brought snacks and downloaded shows on my phone for him to watch. I had to buy his seat since he's two, but he sat in my lap the entire time. He got a little clingy during landing, but didn't cry.
We drove to Daybreak to spend the night at Rachel's parents house where her sister, Laura, lives. It's a big, beautiful house in the most picturesque neighborhood! I fall in love with Utah every time I'm there. If only it didn't snow, I think I would be sold!
We did all the hugging and loving on each other, ate pizza then got some Nielsens concretes! It was so fun to catch up with Rach and Doug while the kids played happily like old friends.
Peeking on the boys we could see that they were very comfortable together, haha.
Amelia, or "Millie" is the spunkiest, funniest, full of life child you ever met!!! Words cannot do her justice. I LOVE her and want to be around her all the time. She belongs on the Disney channel. She would be the star making everyone laugh with her one liners and big personality. She's older than Tanner but they got along famously!
They made us a big, yummy breakfast, then we walked down the street to the community pool. I've never seen a neighborhood pool surrounded by grass! And the mountains seemed to be hugging us. It was all very storybook like.
It was over before you could say "fry sauce" and I honestly don't think I could have left them if I didn't know I'd be seeing Rach again at our friend's cabin in two weeks. I had to blink away the tears as we drove away. I love these people so much. Why does Dallas have to be so far away?!
