Easter All Week

I love, love, LOVE the week before Easter.
Since we were in Mesa on Palm Sunday, we discussed it for FHE on Monday night. We reenacted the Triumphal Entry and the boys took turns being Jesus or shouting Hosanna and waving the palm fronds we made out of green construction paper.

We also discussed Jesus cleansing the temple and how we can make our home more temple like. Building temples out of sugar cubes is always their favorite. How gross is it that I don't mind popping a sugar cube or two in my mouth??!

On Tuesday we talked about several of Christ's parables, including the 10 Virgins.
I had just enough clay for the boys to make oil lamps!
They were our "light" at the Passover feast the next night.
Due to circumstances, we had our special dinner on Wednesday night. We invited the Shaheens and enjoyed lamb for the first time! I also made lentil soup and had unleavened bread, goat cheese, honeyed yogurt, dates and olives. Oh, and of course grape juice. I absolutely LOVE this tradition. We eat on the floor and talk about the Last Supper, the first sacrament and how Christ washed the disciples feet.

(The boys' cousin, Abbey, sent Flat Stanley to our house for the week. We struggled to find things for Stanley to do, so he came to our Passover dinner, haha! I hope her class enjoys reading about that!)

I felt so bad having Megan sit on the floor! They are such good sports and make it a fun tradition to share with them!

On Thursday we discussed Christ suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane. The church has some LDS Bible videos online that we'd been watching all week. So we continued with those and showed the boys how he died on the cross. We also taught them about Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt and what the ancient Passover meant. It was a difficult concept to teach, but I think they got some of it. We hung a red sash over our door to show we would have had the faith of the righteous Israelites back then. Just as we have faith now.
The next morning we left for Arizona and finished up our celebration of Easter there!
