So last Wednesday I was having a pretty crummy morning when I get a call from Megan inviting me to go with her as she does a review for Cirque du Soleil. Well things just got better from there! We drove downtown to the HSBC Arena and were given an official tour of the place, including backstage. Emilie, the head of their PR, showed us around the dressing rooms and we got to see all their costumes, hats, shoes, makeup- the works. We got to sit in the empty arena and interview their Artistic Director, Adam Miller, while watching the performers practice. Megan was so nice and let me jump in with questions and comments. I felt like a kid playing "reporter"! It was so fun.
These pics were taken during the day while they were practicing. The poles are called the Chinese
Bars. Holy cow, these guys are freakin' amazing. I can't do a pushup and they can climb a pole sideways!
While we were being given the tour, Emilie gave us tickets for the opening show that night, and even threw in two extras for our husbands! (the most amazing seats too) That's a retail value of over $400, absolutely free! (was that a good impression of an infomercial ?:)
So when we came back that night for the show there were signs and adamant ushers demanding that NO CAMERAS be allowed in. So since we were "Media" we were taken in through the back and Megan and I were given Media Pass stickers to wear so that we could bring our cameras in. We were allowed on the floor area as the show began and were allowed to snap pics of the show. We were right next to the Channel 12 guy. I guess they thought I was also with the Buffalo News, so here I am with my beaten up, old camera, trying to act official and snap pics that I know will only ever make their debut on my blog, and not a fancy newspaper. I felt deceitful, but was too excited to be ashamed.
After the opening scene we decided we had enough of the special treatment and went to our seats to enjoy the show with our hubbies.
I guess Cirque has different shows that tour and this one has been around over ten years. It was called Saltimbanco. My dad took my sister and me to see Cirque in Vegas when we were about 18 and that show was Mystere. They were pretty similar, I thought.
Megan and I showing off our fancy schmancy media passes. Haha

We're such super stars, I love it! That was so much fun!! Do you think maybe we should forget about the Ms. Buffalo Wing comp and start training for Cirque by swinging from trees and climbing up sky scrapers???? Naah... that might not be good for the baby, plus my dream to be next years Ms. Buffalo Wing is much to alive for that.
I am so jealous I love Cirque du Soleil. By the way you look so great for being 4 months pregnant I cannot tell at all (I am jealous again). I am glad you had a good time what a great experience.
Yeah! Don’t you love Cirque du Soleil? I had a similar experience while working for Trader Joe's. The manager of a show (I forget which one)came shopping in our store while they were in town and liked how she was treated by one of the employees and gave the whole store and a friend each front row tickets. Marcus and I were blown away. They had a guy from the audience come up and participate at odd intervals during the program, we all thought it was hilarious and then we found out he was part of the act at the very end when he started doing the ‘Chinese Bars’ right along with the rest of them. Good times.
Are these the people at Sea world too? Man, Buffalo is just the happening place. Lucky you that you got front row so you could see the men in their spandex jump suits in action! I can't believe you didn't get a picture with them.
Oh, I will ship Lane out to you next week, spanks!
