Family Camping

Carrying on the annual Family Camping tradition! July 15-17. Only Shelley poo poos on camping and wasn't going to go so I took her boys or else my kids would have been super sad! We left Thursday morning but Travis worked that day so he met us late that night. Even with a lot in the back of his truck, this is how stuffed my car was!
We went to a spot I had never been to before, so we went a little too far and had to turn around. Thank goodness Marcie wasn't far behind so I met up with them and followed them into camp. Just in the nick of time too because I didn't realize my car had overheated! Steam poured from the hood when I parked. Austin checked it out and said I needed more coolant so I called Travis to tell him to bring some up. Old Dolly is really showing her age lately.
Next conundrum. Grandpa loaded the RZR on the trailer first, then put the water tank in next and filled it with untold gallons of water. Impossible to move to unload the RZR. We all stared at it for a while and laughed. He finally had to dump the majority of the water but we still had enough for the weekend.

This also happened right in the middle of the "Craig coming home early" situation. So Grandma wasn't doing great and some hard conversations were had that first night. I feel like I want to mention that only to keep things real. We had an amazing time together, but happy family pictures don't always tell the whole story.

We all pitched in to make taco salad for dinner Thursday night. I brought the fixings for campfire waffle cone sundaes but we ended up cooking them over the camp stove. And the ice cream had melted to thick cream, haha! Lesson learned... it takes dry ice to keep ice cream cold in a cooler!
Taking rides in the RZR was the big attraction. The boys stuck to the quads. Lots of hammock swinging and board games too! One day we organized a family game of whiffle ball. Travis was pitching to Tanner when he wacked one right in his face! And I got it on camera! Luckily, no damage done to his glasses. On Saturday we played a corn hole tournament. Jefferson and Collin won their match! Grandpa and I didn't fare as well. Travis smoke a bunch of sweet pork and we made quesadillas with it when it was our turn to provide lunch. I also had to make the graham cracker peanut brittle to snack on! And of course, smores around the campfire Friday night! We were expecting tons of rain but only got a little. Yay for Jefferson bringing up the portapotties! And we were glad Grandma made it up! Looking at these pictures cheers me up. I'm so grateful for every single person here and the memories we create together. It's a lot of work, but this is why we do it. Sometimes the best things take the most effort. And fancy milkshakes in Payson on the way home is an added bonus!
