Ohhhh, the trips to Arizona are painful for this little one. And if the sun gets in her eyes... watch out. It's like poison. Soon enough, she'll catch on to the wonder of TV and things will get better. We left after sacrament meeting and I couldn't WAIT to leave the frigid wind and drive into warmer weather!
We came specifically when we did so I could go to Josie's fireside that night. This won't mean much to other people, but look at the time when I pulled in! No coincidence I'm sure.
My mom made snoring enchiladas at Marcie's request (my favorite) and while we were eating, she pretended to take a group picture of us all while she was secretly recording instead. Then she said, "One, Two.. I'm pregnant!" Ahhhhh!!!! It took us a second, but then it was chaos!! So exciting!! Seriously, can not WAIT to meet this baby!!
I took off at quarter to 7 to make it to the fireside. Josie spoke at ASU's institute and look who I sat in front of! So fun to run into my Aunt Tava, Uncle Kent and cousins, Trellany and Bromley.
This was my first time getting to hear her speak and all the hype was true. She is powerful and a force to be reckoned with. This girl doesn't just talk the talk, she walks the walk.
Dang photo bombers. I also got to meet Brighton for the first time! They've been dating about a month. He's a catch for sure!
Monday morning I met up with "the girls" for a breakfast brunch to celebrate Jenni's birthday!
Marcie was watching my kids at my mom's house and I came back to snacks of canned cheese and wheat thins. Admittedly, a not rare occurrence in our house growing up. They were loving having the letters in their name written on the cracker before eating it. Healthy eating and learning, all in one!!
It was Rusty's birthday, so we decided to take him our for some fun! We hit up Riverview Park, then Chick-fil-A, then Dairy Queen.
I squeezed in some grocery shopping, then we met up with their whole family at Amazing Jakes for more birthday fun!
Given Weston's BMI, I'm surprised he didn't fly right off this rollercoaster.
He got his candles in some soft serve ice cream and was happy as could be about it! Atta boy, Rusty! We sure love you!
"Throw your hands in the aiiir... like ya just don't care!"
Lane was not amused. ;)
After a painful night with the kids, waking me up incessantly, I decided I deserved a treat. A PB acai bowl. And since Olive was napping and Wayne offered to watch the boys, I got to eat it in peace then do a little shopping! My kind of morning.
After Olive woke up, I took the kids to Sam's club and lookie who we ran into?! Trav's best friend, Chase. I forced him to take a selfie with me to send to the working boy. :)
I spent most of Wednesday, prepping food for Thanksgiving, then we met Shelley at Harmony park and the kids played the afternoon away. That's when Travis finally got to town and we met at the infamous Gecko Grill for dinner. After the kids were in bed, we attempted to keep the quasi-tradional "donuts/egg nog/Thanksgiving FRIENDS episode" night- before- Thanksgiving alive at Marcie's house. I hadn't gotten to Bosa to get the donuts all day and was about to just head to settle and go to Fry's to get some, when I spied two whole boxes on my mom's table. My dad had brought them home from work. Um PERFECT. Sadly though, the Thanksgiving episodes weren't going to be on until the next day, so we settled for SNL Thanksgiving episodes and stuffing our Christmas card envelopes.
Thanksgiving morning, we got all geared up for the Turkey Trot! Trav and I signed up for the whole shebang... 10k. He's done it before, but I had not! It was the longest I've ever run... well EVER. Reddin and Aubrey were nice to let Collin and Weston join them for the 2 miler. I guess Weston lasted about 1/2 a mile before hopping in the stroller. Collin did the whole thing though!
In the "pee line", right before the race. I had no expectations, except to finish, but once we got started, I felt myself pushing harder than usual. We kept a fairly steady 9 min. mile and never stopped. At home, I usually only go at a 10 min./mile pace. Around mile 5 I had to poop, but luckily it didn't turn into an emergency! Ha! If you know me, that's just how it goes. But you better believe I crossed that finish line and just kept right on going to the porta-potties! ;) I can never say I really enjoy running, but it felt good to exercise and conquer a challenge! Anymore, unless it's a 1/2 marathon or marathon, it's nothing anyone cares about, but for me, it was an accomplishment!
This year, was a "Lindblom" year for Thanksgiving, but the traditional Lindsey Family Reunion was being held in Utah (Yahoo! Do a little dance!!), so we got to have Thanksgiving as just our family. Now, the standard at the Lindblom household is paper. Paper cups, paper plates, paper towels, etc. BUT, Marcie and I pitched a little fit and convinced my mom to bust out not only the REAL plates and silverware, but the NICE plates and silverware. She even caught the fever and bought goblets and utensil holders and a table runner. Fancy shmancy!!
I made two kinds of sweet potatoes, the cranberry sauce and creamed corn casserole. The stuff that will kill us all one day. There's a year's worth of butter and cream in that recipe! But oh so good.
Even the kids got fun utensil holders and plastic goblets.
I made a cherry pie and forgot to cover the edges with tinfoil. Ugh. I just cannot do pies. I try every year and crash and burn.
After dinner, the kids went outside to give Grandma a heart attack on the tramp (only Collin fell off once) and the rest of us eventually followed.
Grandpa got the fun started with Crack the Egg.
Rusty got hurt and while Grandma was consoling him, Olive noticed someone in distress and decided to offer her love.
I love that my dad will hop on a skitter and play with the kids.
These two would not cooperate for a picture!! :)
This girlie had the cutest outfit on but would also not cooperate for a picture! (Hmmm, where does she get it from?! :) So someone played music from their phone and she was busting a move. Gangham style, if I remember correctly. It should have been "What does the Fox say?!"
I was dying when I got these shots. Sooo cute!!
The progressive dinner finished on the driveway. All manner of skateboards, scooters, skitters, bikes and balls were flying!
My mom and her bestie, the videocamera. :)
Catching a football like he was born with one in his hands!
Friday morning I got the best gift ever.. 5 hours of uninterrupted shopping with no kids! Thank you, Travis!! And the kids got some fun too. They have such a fun Aunt Aubrey whose willing to play with them. And Trav took them to see Big Hero 6.
I powered up for my shopping with "The Greenie" from Nektar. I really wanted to like it. Really. I'd have felt so good about myself. But it was icky. But here it is next to my green purse, all ready to spend some green $$$. Haha. Forgive me, babe. ;)
I hit up the dry cleaners, Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, TJMaxx and Chipotle.
I finished up around 1pm and had enough time for a swimming sesh with the kids at Shelley's heated pool! I was only brave enough for the hot tub though. Travis scored major points. He was missing the big ASU game to be with us (unbeknownst to me at the time) AND he suffered through screaming fits from Weston as he gave him a swimming lesson. And you know what???? Weston started swimming!!! I wanted to cry from joy. I just wish we lived here so it could be followed up soon with more lessons.
Travis's awesome husband points continued as he put the kids to bed while I went to Chandler to shop and eat with my seesters. We started at Nordstrom Rack, then TJMaxx, then mosied on over to Chandler Mall for some Cheesecake Factory. We were CERTAIN it would be packed, so we kicked Shelley out of the car to get our name on the list while we parked the car. To our complete surprise, Shelley was seated when we walked in!! We sat down, amazed and asking her how on earth we got seated immediately. Shelley laughed and said all she had to do was... and she put her arms down, hunched her shoulders and squeezed her chest together, like she gave the host a "show". If you know how little my sisters and I are "blessed" with, you'd understand how hysterical that was. I was nearly crying tears from laughter.
We shared the Orange Chicken and Stuffed Chicken Tortillas, with like 6 sides of ranch. Yeah, baby!
The mall closed at 9.. wha??!!! So we hurried to H&M and Forever 21 and I found myself a cute new outfit with some old birthday gift cards! Thanks, Paula!!
We got some cheesecake for the road and had to laugh when Marcie slammed on her brakes, RIGHT as Shelley was opening hers. Hope whipped cream goes well with your interior, Marcie! ;)
This really was such a fun night!
On Friday, Lane got baptized! It was kind of a dual baptism with his cousin on the other side, Randon. Randon's dad was just killed in a car accident last month, so this was a very special and emotional occasion.
Some gorgeous mom's right here!
The Goodman's know how to party! They basically threw a wedding reception afterward, and we weren't complaining!! They had Gecko Grill enchiladas, bean dip, and green salsa, Nando's chimis, and corn chips from Food City. I was in Mexican food heaven!!
This picture PERFECTLY illustrates Shelley and I love it!
They had crepes for dessert. Like I said, it was a party!
Later that night, Trav met up with Chase at Nielsen's and I met up with Miss Josie! It was a late night catching up but so worth it. Lisa popped in for a second too and Brighton joined in for most of it. I seriously LOVE the Thompson family. The more I get to know them the more I love them.
After church the next day and the traditional turkey flautas at the Evans, we were on our way back to Gallup. I don't know why, but I was really dreading going home. I don't usually feel that way, so I don't know what my deal was. I think a lot of it was the weather. Even Mesa was colder than I liked it, so I really didn't want to go back to icy winds and cloudy skies. Just 3 more weeks til Christmas. Just 3 more weeks til Christmas!
