BaBy FooD - YuCk!

HELP!
Gerber has failed me. Collin is such a stinker when it comes to eating! We started giving him rice cereal a couple weeks ago, which he tolerated ok, until he realized he could blow it off the spoon and all over Mama! Case in point below:
Then on Sunday we started with real baby food. No bueno. You know those Funniest Home Video clips of the babies making hilarious faces while eating? Well, come to find out, those faces aren't that abnormal! Collin makes them EVERY time he eats!
I believe these are carrots he is disdaining.

Oh, that happy face isn't going to last very long....

Meal time consists of at least a half hour endeavor to sneak the spoonfuls in. After a while he gets smart and purses his lips tight until I get him to laugh, then shove the slop in. THEN, he discovered, he doesn't have to swallow! Why not just let it chill in your gaping mouth, until the saliva starts accumalting and slides out? Sigh. The past couple times I've literally become nauseous after watching this ordeal.
Well I stuck with the veggies since I heard that was what was best to start with, then yesterday I broke out the pears. He just loved them. Can ya tell?
He loves to nurse. What is going on here?! Hmm, I remember he loved that candy apple. I may have produced a mini me. I'll nickname him Mr. Sugar Addict. This is not good news.

Like really, he doesn't like baby food! No worries. Lane had rice cereal once and I think I bought baby food a total of 3 times. My dr. says baby food doesn't give them any extra or special nutrition, it just get's them used to the concept of eating real food. Lane just got bottles till he turned one. So much easier than the mess and time. Since you are only nursing, I would start throwing formula in a few times a day so he get's more full. Then you really don't have to worry bout Gerber

I'm with Shelley, rice cereal, booby milk and fruits are good enough for a while. Keep letting him try the other ones every now and again, but he will live without them. I am so glad you captured those faces..they are a crack up!!!!

Love the little guys face. He is such a crack up with the faces he pulls. I didn't worry about the vegies too much with my children. I think sometimes doctors don't know what the real world of babies is like. They just spout what would be nice like starting off with vegies. Really now, have you tasted those vegies? Blegh I would pull those faces also. With Reddin I got him to eat the fruits and stuck the vegies on the back of the spoon. It worked for awhile. Keep trying, it will be okay. Carrie made her own baby food, with real food. That way it isn't too expensive when you have to throw it out because he won't eat it.

He can join Kayda's club, she only liked to nurse and she did not like baby food at all, she liked crackers, cereal, and candy. She got better a few days after I stopped nursing, but she was over one.

I nursed my last baby as well (until he was 19 months), and he NEVER ate baby food, we just stuck with nursing. Eventally as he got older he would munch on table foods when he started to get those teeth, but until then it was all mommy! :-) After age ONe though he was basically eating what we were eating, so we just skipped the baby food stage all together and it saves money!

Wow, everyone else is saying just skip it. I would never have thought of that. Our baby gagged on veggies at first, but now she loves them. We just stuck with it. But, whatever works for you!
